The authorised branches of the Bank are permitted
to encash foreign currency notes tendered by bonafide holders
of such currency. A bonafide holder may be a foreign national
carrying valid travel documents for his stay in Bhutan or a
person resident in Bhutan/Bhutanese National coming back to
the country after his stay abroad.
In addition to Phuentsholing Main Branch, Thimphu
Main Branch and Paro Branch, eight more branches of the Bank
have been authorised to convert foreign exchange (Travellers
cheques and currency notes) into local currency. They are:
- Bumtha
- Trongsa
- Trashigang
- Mongar
- Gelephu
- Samtse
- Samdrup Jongkha
- City Branch, Thimphu
While Phuentsholing Main Branch and Thimphu
Main Branch can convert into Ngultrums all major currencies (which
have an active and wide market) the other branches mentioned above
are authorised to convert into Ngultrums of the following currencies
at the rates provided by the RMA.

The facility of reconversion of Ngultrums into
Foreign currency will be available only with Phuentsholing Main
Branch, Thimphu Main Branch and Paro Branch; other branches are
NOT authorised to carry out reconversions.
